MACKINTOSH and CONVERSE, both timeless classics that have defined modernity and style. For MACKINTOSH, it was its signature rainwear that sheltered everyone from policemen to British royalties for the last 150 years. For CONVERSE, it was the Jack Purcell. Donned by badminton champ Jack Purcell himself first, the simple canvas shoes with a “smile” have seen its fair share of common men and royalties of the Hollywood kind. In seeing a complement of both labels’ histories, MACKINTOSH and CONVERSE will introduce the CONVERSE Jack Purcell Johnny featuring MACKINTOSH’s rubberized cotton as upper. Limited and available in 3 vibrant colors – navy blue upper with lime interior, putty colored upper with a chocolate interior, and finally, a dark olive upper with its deep plum interior. To reciprocate the offer, MACKINTOSH will introduce its iconic single breasted raincoat in matching colors as well, each with the “Jack Purcell smile” imprinted under its collar.
Comes in sizes 4-13 and retails for $140, the MACKINTOSH x CONVERSE Jack Purcell Johnny is set for launch on this Friday, April 22nd, at UK’s CONVERSE retailers and May 1st at CONVERSE First String locations in the US. Only 120 units available, each special edition MACKINTOSH raincoat retails for $1000 and set to be available at the newly opened MACKINTOSH flagship store in London along with select CONVERSE retailers, such as UNION LA.

As always, much to discuss from the week’s news; we have a familiar theme this week: sneakers – with an interesting collaboration between Nike SB and artist Goeff McFetridge, plus the unique Black Cat, Good Luck-Bad Luck pack, which includes some highly unique Footscape Woven models, two of which are collaborations with Boston boutique Bodega. Nike also released the Spring 2011 collection from the Jun Takahashi-designed Gyakusou line, which is as amazing as the first one from last Fall. In a Massachusetts-centric project, Boston-based Concepts got together with New Balance to release a nautical-themed version of the 999, along with a few sailing inspired accessories; we also got release info about the Converse x Givenchy shoe this week, which is just the latest in a series of collaborations with couture fashion houses. Rounding out the sneaker news, we offered a recap of SneakerCon DC this week as well, in a video put together by adidas Originals. Supreme released a collection of shirts this week, which as always, merits at least a mention (though the product wasn’t as quite as quick to sell as some releases). Staying with the New York theme, Freshness recapped the opening event for the new flagship Oakley store in Times Square. And finally, this week brought episode two in The LeBrons, the animated series created in part by LeBron James. Check out the details of all of these stories after the jump.

Following its initial success, CONVERSE reaffirmed its recent collaboration with the venerable brand Schott, maker of the iconic Perfecto Leather Jacket, with the new white Chuck Taylor Leather Jacket. Embodiments of Americana and its free spirited zeal, both became the preferred gears for those rebels without a cause in the 1950s, riding high outlaw bikers of 60s, all the way to stage trashing punk rockers from the more recent eras. By reiteration of these 2 classics into one form, a CONVERSE Chuck Taylor All Star in white leather, unique attributes of both appear more apparent. Featuring a zip heel panel and zip lace channel down the middle, the shoe’s upper is made from a series of patchwork in white leather. A quilted lining, a hidden Schott label, along with snaps on the tongue complete the hints of Schott Perfrecto. Available in unisex sizing starting this coming Friday, April 15th, at CONVERSE First String retail locations such as Stussy Chapter New York, Blends of Costa Mesa, Chicago’s St. Alfred, KICKS-HI of Hawaii, and more…
